Here at Affinity Living, we grant our tenants full creative freedom to paint and decorate their apartments as they wish, because personalising your space is vital for both your individuality and mental health. Especially during the summer, it’s important that our homes incorporate elements for nature into the interior to stop those cabin-fever feelings and boost your energy.
Rented apartments are like a blank canvas and for those who don’t have the luxury of creative freedom in their rental space, we are sharing our 5 top tips to redecorate in summer!
Become a Plant Parent
Nature is forever and always in style – especially in summer. Bringing the warm outdoors into your space is essential to give you your daily dose of nature and an outdoor vibe. Snake plants, peace lilies, and philodendrons not only enhance the summer aesthetic but they also help to purify the air in your apartment. A large houseplant such as a monstera or even an indoor tree can lift any room. For beginners, succulents are low maintenance and stylish. Short on space? Utilise any shelf space and window sills with trailing plants to add a touch of nature without overcrowding your living area.
Summery Accessories
Whether adding simple touches like cushion covers, throws, and vases with fresh flowers, or going for more experimental ideas like setting a fabulous tablescape, summer accessories are an easy and rental-friendly way to freshen up your space. For soft furnishings we recommend organic textures and materials like rattan, linen, jute, and wicker to infuse warmth and texture into spaces whilst maintaining an airy feel. You can also focus on summer trending colours—matcha green and blue hues. Consider revamping your glassware for summertime hosting. Try mixing and matching different shapes and colours to create a vibrant and welcoming setting for your guests!
Maximise Light and Space
Mirrors are one of the easiest ways to make a room feel bigger. Position a large standing mirror next to a window to reflect natural light. Every apartment at Affinity Living has floor-to-ceiling windows to welcome in the sunshine and golden hour glow, as we want our tenants to get as much natural light as possible.
Choosing curtain panels with light-filtering properties is a great way to achieve this. Picture long, flowy sheer fabrics designed to let in just enough soft sunlight. Best of all, their featherlight nature makes them renter-friendly to hang. Consider using tension rods, twist-and-fit curtain rods, Command strips, or self-adhesive curtain rod holders.
Statement Prints
Move away from the all-neutral-everything decor. Embracing colour, personality, and drama with more saturated spaces—especially in upholstery and pain. Vintage-inspired floral and bold animal prints are becoming more mainstream. Nothing is off-limits!
If you’re on a budget, simply switch out a cushion cover or add a brightly coloured photo frame; updating your decor doesn’t always need to involve big expenses. Stripes are also having a moment as a statement print—try adding a monochrome striped cushion or a fun striped rug to stay on trend and brighten up your space for the summer season.
